Description:

We are seeking up to 3 research assistants to work on a project in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to assess the effects of management practices on the reproduction and movements of pinyon jays.

Duties will include:

  • Assisting with point-counts to find pinyon jays

  • Nest-searching and monitoring

  • Vegetation sampling

  • Assisting with mist-netting and banding birds

  • Potentially GIS project (as interested)

  • The job will entail working outdoors in all kinds of weather, walking variable distances, and driving on backcountry roads (transportation will be provided).

Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in ecological field methods.

  • A CV and cover letter outlining such experience should be included in the application.

The start date is April 6, 2024, and assistants will be required to work Saturdays during the spring semester, and other hours during the week as able/willing for up to 20 hours per week. For the month of May, the position will include hours each weekday, for up to 40 hours per week. The job ends June 15, 2024.
